Apple iPod Lanyard Headphones for iPod nano 1G

With Apple’s iPod being the dominant player in the mp3 market, there is a panoply of Apple and third-party products to aid its operation. While the sound quality of the included iPod headphones has always been sufficient for my needs, they did not provide optimal placement of the player. Spending most of my mp3 listening time using free weights in the gym, I needed a secure means of carrying my iPod that wouldn’t interfere with arm movements. The lanyard was the perfect choice. After hundreds of hours of use with the first and second generation lanyards, I have been rather pleased with both their sound quality and durability.

Given my experiences with other headphones and mp3 players, however, I would suggest two enhancements. First, there should be a means of detaching the iPod mechanically while the headphone jack is still connected. This would require two attachment points and some slack in the audio cable. I previously owned an inexpensive, nameless mp3 player acquired on eBay that has this arrangement. While less durable than iPod-lanyard combo, it offered much greater flexibility. With Apple’s lanyard, the iPod placement becomes a hassle during exercises where a straight bar is brought down on the chest, such as bench pressing. With the previous arrangement, I could simply detach the mechanical cable and place the mp3 player in my pocket while still listening to my favorite songs.

Secondly, given my experience with the Koss Spark Plug earphones (see review), I would have preferred better sound isolation. The lanyard headphones do little to stop ambient noise, which is an issue in health clubs. In addition, the lanyard headphones just don’t have the deep bass of the Koss product.

Having owned both first and second generation lanyards, I can’t determine any difference between their construction or sound quality. In both cases, I paid roughly fifty dollars, which seems a bit exorbitant. However, this is to be expected with most brand-name iPod accessories. If you use your iPod while working out, cycling or walking as much as I do, you are certain to get your money’s worth nonetheless.

Pros
Great for use during exercise
Durable

Cons
No non-lanyard mode
Difficult to use during bench press due to bar impact
Little sound isolation
Overpriced

Feature

  • Compatibility: iPod nano 1G
  • Plug headphones into the dock connector, put it around your neck and you’re off
  • Ingenious built-in earbuds conquer clutter by integrating the audio signal with the lanyard itself
  • Get a streamlined look without all the extra wire
  • So light that it can hang just about anywhere

Overview

Your iPod nano is so small, it can fit just about anywhere. And it’s so light, it can hang just about anywhere, too – including around your neck. All you need is the iPod nano Lanyard Headphones.Just plug the lanyard into the dock connector, put it around your neck and you’re off. Its ingenious built-in earbuds conquer clutter by integrating the audio signal with the lanyard itself, so you get a streamlined look without all the extra wire. When you want to change songs or adjust volume, just look down: iPod nano is right there, always at the ready.

Apple iPod nano 4 GB Silver (3rd Generation) OLD MODEL

I got an Ipod in December 2007 after my old Zen Neon mp3 player sadly broke.
Just a 4Gig Ipod is fine by me. This is a great choice of Mp3 player for listening to music anywhere you want! The sound quality is great and it’s easy to use Itunes to put your songs on to your Ipod.

Appearance – 5/5 – sleak & very nice, also easy to handle and soft on the hands.
Ease of Use – 5/5 – It’s simple to press & play songs and to choose your other features it’s basically a big bright looking screen with a button and scroll wheel to scroll through your songs.
Battery Life – 3/5 – Battery Life doesn’t last very long if you’re using your Ipod with the brightness setting on high, but if you have the brightness setting on the lowest setting the battery power will last a long time [The brightness affects your battery life, if you have it on and charge it all night the Ipod runs out of battery within 45 minutes!]
Capacity – 5/5 – 4Gigabytes isn’t bad if you want to use your Ipod as a music player.
Videos & other stuff will take up more space. I just like my Ipod as a music player.
Display – 5/5 – The Ipod Nano is big enough to see your song information & stuff on the screen
Customer Support – 5/5 – Customer support on the Apple website is very useful you can either contact them directly or use the forums, I don’t suggest using the forums since no one replies but it’s better to contact Apple Support directly on their email they are very friendly & they reply quickly.
Features – 5/5 – The Ipod has a wide range of features you don’t just have to put music on it you can also put videos on it & watch movies on it, play games on it and more!
Portabillity – 5/5 – the best thing about the Ipod is the portabillity, you can take this ipod wherever you go!
Good Price – 5/5 – The Ipod is reasonably priced and it’s a good affordable Media Player. I recommend this item!

Apple iPod mini Dock

This is well designed product that fits the iPod mini perfectly, and allows it stand upright so it doesn’t get banged around etc. while syncing or charging.

I bought two – one is attached to my stereo system and used as a standalone charger (and for playing music through the stereo), the second sits next to my Palm cradle and attaches to my USB 2.0 hub for syncing my iPod.

No gripes whatsoever, it is a very good looking product. I initially bought a third party cheaper product, the opening for the iPod is too big (though it works), it was clearlu designed to be used for the larger iPods – and it has an annoying LED that can’t be turned off. Not very nice to have in a room where people sleep.

It also looks cheap. The Apple iPod mini dock looks very classy, not an eyesore in the slightest.

For the reviewer who said:

Here’s the joke, the dock is absolutely nothing more than a stand for your Mini. It comes with no cabling and it does not come with an AC adapter (that is another !) Apple makes sure that you can’t get any idea of what you are buying until after you have purchased it and broken open the packaging.

My iPod mini came with an AC adapter and a FireWire cable that attaches to the adapter. They plug right into the dock, nothing else needed to make the dock a standalone charger. If you want to use FireWire to connect to your mac/pc – then you will need to buy a second firewire cable. Me? I just use the USB2 cable that came with my mini for syncing.

Feature

  • Optional FireWire and USB 2.0 dock for iPod mini
  • USB 2.0 connection is for Windows PCs only
  • Synch in a simple, one-step operation
  • Includes a stereo line out, so you can connect it to powered speakers
  • Compatibility: iPod mini

Overview

The optional FireWire and USB 2.0 dock makes charging and synching a simple, one-step operation. There’s even an audio line out port for connecting to powered speakers or a home stereo.

Apple iPod classic 120 GB Black (6th Generation) [Previous Model]

Just received a Refurbished iPod Classic 120G.

Thank you Apple and FedEx for getting it to me all the way from China in a couple of business days in time for Christmas !

As far as the few negative one star reviews here about poor sound reproduction . . . I decided, in spite of that, to take the leap and try my luck.

Comparing it to my iPhone ( which sounds great ) through Sony Professional MDR-7506 Studio Monitor head phones and through the Apple ear buds I proclaim them ( iPhone and iPod 120 ) to be so close to identical I can’t tell them apart.

I compared them using the exact same tracks of dynamic classical music including human voice, highs and pipe organ.

Any difference at all I leave up to slight difference in volume setting.

In other words : I AM TOTALLY HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE !

There may have been a problem in the past. If so it seems they have taken care of it, in the refurb. or otherwise.

I am a long time Mac/Apple user. I have an iMac, a Macbook Air, a Shuffle, a Nano, an iPhone and now the iPod Classic.

Apple people if you bring a tablet to market I am there !

Apple iPod classic 160 GB Black (7th Generation) NEWEST MODEL

This is my first Ipod and I didn’t have any problem with it. I thought it would be hard to convert my Windows Media Player files to ITunes, and it wasn’t. Customer service is very fast and accurate. My Ipod has more storage capacity than my computer. Now I have to get an external hard drive to store everything. So, think about that when picking out how many GB you want on your Ipod.

Apple iPod nano 16 GB Green (4th Generation) OLD MODEL

So you want an MP3 Player. You’ve heard iPods are nice, right? An older Nano might work.

Here’s the rap: there’s the Sansa Clip+, made by Sandisk, and it’s brilliant. It’s about a third of the price of this Nano. It only plays music, but has a lot more features (FM, voice recorder, better codec support) and a jaw-dropping increase in sound quality. It comes in 2, 4 or 8 GB versions, and you can put in cards to make the memory bigger.

Then you have the iPod Touch and iPhone. These buddies are in a class of their own – they’re practically portable computers at this point. They play movies, music, games, the whole monty. They run a mini version of the Mac OS, for goodness sakes.

But what if you want a mindpoint between these two excellent machines? You like the Sansa Clip, but you want video support, or a bigger screen? Or you’re inching toward the Touch, but you don’t need all of that pizazz? If you want something a little larger, really want or need iTunes to manage your music library, and don’t mind a small loss in audio quality, the iPod Nano may be right for you. It is easy, simple, fast, and just a plain good product. Apple makes some great hardware (I’m serious – this thing’s design will make you melt), and their interface is very well done.

If none of that matters to you, get a Clip or Clip+ and spend the hundred you saved on some nice headphones or some new albums on Amazon MP3. The Nano is nice, but its price isn’t far enough away from the Touch’s low end product, and the extras don’t make up for the hike in price.

Feature

  • 16 GB capacity for 4,000 songs, 14,000 photos, or 16 hours of video
  • Up to 24 hours of music playback or 4 hours of video playback when fully charged
  • 2-inch LCD with blue-white LED backlight and 320-by-240-pixel resolution
  • Supported audio formats: AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible, Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV
  • Supported video formats: H.264, MPEG-4; Supported image file types: JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, PSD (Mac only), and PNG

And your photos (up to 14,000 of them) look great in portrait or landscape view. Available in 8 GB and 16 GB models, the 16 GB iPod nano puts up to 4,000 songs or 16 hours of video in your pocket.
